In a shocking discovery, Ideal, the chicken nugget company recently faced a detrimental outbreak of Staphylococcus, which jeopardized the health and safety of its consumers. During a routine retail surveillance and sampling program in December 2022, conducted by the Food Safety Unit of the Victorian Government's Department of Health, Staphylococcal enterotoxin was detected in Ideal's chicken nuggets. After the Food Safety Unit alerted Ideal company about the contamination, the company took immediate action to protect its customers. A total of 20,232 pounds of chicken nuggets were found to be positive for Staphylococcus enterotoxin and subsequently recalled from the market. This recall aimed to prevent any further instances of contamination and ensure public health. Unfortunately, during this time, 114 cases of illness were reported. The recall specifically affected 12-oz. boxes of Ideal's Crumbed Chicken Nugget with a Best By date of February 25, 2023.

The estimated financial losses amounted to approximately 25,000 AUD, which included expenses related to the retrieval, disposal, and the potential legal consequences associated with the outbreak.
